Description: Today we will learn how to connect Bebop & Mixolydian scales, so that chord tones always fall on rhythmically strong beats. 30 Day Jazz-Blues Piano Challenge Book: bit.ly/jazzbluesbook Day 8 - Bebop Hanon: C Bebop & Mixolydian Scale 0:00 - Level 1 1:24 - Level 2 2:15 - Level 3 ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐๐ญ๐ ๐๐ข๐๐ง๐จ ๐๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐ฏ๐ข๐ฌ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฌ๐ ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐๐๐ ๐ข๐ง๐ง๐๐ซ๐ฌ, ๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ฆ๐๐๐ข๐๐ญ๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ฏ๐๐ง๐๐๐ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ: soundofemotions.com My Sheet Music store bit.ly/sheetmusic-shop My Music: fanlink.to/soundofemotions skaar.bandcamp.com/music Instagram: instagram.com/davidmagyel ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lesson Notes: Level 1 & 2 Teaching and being around musicians made me realize that everyone has their own 'method' to approach melody, harmony, and rhythm. One thing is common: The method we follow has to be as simple as possible because overthinking gets into the way of free improvisation. Everyone is different; what makes complete sense to you might not make any sense to me, and that's okay. Your job is to find out what works for you: Is it thinking about modes? Is it thinking about half step rules? Here are two approaches to today's lesson. Which one of these two resonated with you more? Thinking about modes if your descending line starts on 1, 3, 5 or b7 - the right scale will be the Dominant Bebop scale. If your descending line starts on 2, 4, 6 - the right scale will be the Mixolydian Scale. Always check what note is falling to beat one, and according to that, apply the right scale. Thinking about half steps (Barry Harris Method) If your descending line starts on 1, 3, 5 or b7 - add 1 half step between 1 and b7 If your descending line starts on 2, 4, 6 - no extra half step is required between 1 and b7 About Level 3: - Choose the most challenging left-hand pattern from the "Level 2 Scale Etude" and play through all the scale variations with that one pattern. - Play each scale variation 2x in a row with no mistakes. - Get rid of the sheet music asap.
